STUDENTS
Membership
Any Yale student can join DFA! We welcome undergraduate and graduate students of any major, discipline, and backgrounds.
Currently, we have around 30 students in our chapter studying everything from mechanical engineering and computer science to art and architecture, in addition to several SOM students.
Meetings
We meet in Yale's CEID at least twice a week: once as an entire studio on Tuesday nights from 7 to 8 PM, and once in individual project teams, determined by each team.

The time commitment is usually around 3 hours a week, but the more time put in the more students learn and the greater the impact on the community.
Recruitment
We recruit members at the beginning of fall and spring semesters. We do not have an application process, but we do ask that students commit during the beginning of the semester.
If you are interested in joining and/or have any questions, please contact us through our website or email us at yale@designforamerica.org.
Workshops
We do not expect prior experience in design or engineering to participate in DFA. Throughout both semesters, we hold skills and design thinking workshops to help students prototype and realize their projects.

In addition to our design thinking curriculum, past workshops include:
-
Handtools
-
Adobe Illustrator and InDesign
-
Rapid Prototyping
